Our Mission

Re:Action4Inclusion seeks to empower youth to take action individually and collectively to make our schools and communities more inclusive spaces. Led by a Youth Advisory Committee, this movement seeks to change the Canadian narrative of disability and to help communities embrace young adults as community leaders and stakeholders. We support youth to facilitate conversations that will reframe the current understanding of ‘community’ and that will help us build neighbourhoods where all youth can thrive.

Our Vision

Youth with and without a disability, with the support of adult allies, had the vision to inspire a movement of people that would influence social change. Using their collective voices, this youth-driven advocacy movement is rewriting the narrative of disability held by our society.

Our Framework

Re:Action4Inclusion’s Inclusion Framework has been created in partnership with youth and stakeholders of the movement. The Framework has been designed to have a transformative impact on how young people with disabilities are seen, welcomed and included in public spaces. It has also been designed to provide youth, with and without a disability, the opportunity to gain necessary leadership skills that enhance their ability to be active citizens in their own communities and across Ontario.

It is our hope that the Inclusion Framework will be adopted by community and youth focused organizations, family resource centers and community stakeholders at large.

What Is the Youth Advisory Committee?

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a powerful group of youth between the ages of 14 and 29 that lead the Re:Action4inclusion movement. This dedicated team provides recommendations and informs Community Living Ontario about the experience of youth in Ontario. This committee meets online bi-weekly to discuss and plan opportunities to support young community builders to break down barriers to inclusion.

Community Action Projects

The “Community Action Project” initiative empowers young change makers, ages 14–29, to turn their passion into action by promoting the authentic inclusion of youth with disabilities in their communities. These projects provide the space for youth to creatively address inclusion, work collaboratively with their peers, and develop a local project that feeds into the Re:Action4Inclusion youth movement.

To be eligible for this initiative, your project must:

  • Be led by at least 5 youth (ages 14-29). At least 2 youth should identify as having an intellectual disability.
  • Raise awareness and promote the authentic inclusion of youth with intellectual disabilities within your school or local community.
  • Be connected to a secondary school, youth-serving organization, post-secondary association or club, or Community Living member organization within Ontario.
  • Identify at least 1 adult ally who will act as a support person for the project.
  • Identify one youth in the group to be the Project Lead.
